A Texas based cement company is taking bold steps to integrate renewable energy into its operations at the San Antonio plant. In early 2023, the company commissioned Phase One, a 45-acre, customer-owned solar array that now stands as one of the largest solar systems in the CPS Energy service area. That installation supplies approximately 15% of the plant’s annual electricity demand and positions the company as an early mover in decarbonizing energy-intensive industries.
Building on that momentum, Phase Two is now under construction—a 10 MW expansion being delivered by Spear Solar Solutions, a trusted strategic partner of The Gould Group and PowerStack. Scheduled for completion in late 2025, this project will significantly increase the company's onsite generation capacity, reduce reliance on the grid, and strengthen the company’s ability to control energy costs in a highly competitive sector.
10 MW of additional onsite solar generation.
Utility-scale, ground-basedd array engineered to integrate directly with Alamo Cement’s plant operations.
Will generate approximately 20 million kWh annually, enough to power ~2,250 U.S. homes, avoiding 13,900 metric tons of CO₂ emissions per year—the equivalent of planting nearly 1,600 acres of U.S. forests.
Approximately 12 months. Construction completed and system commissioned in 2025.
Integrated into CPS Energy’s distribution network, adding dispatchable stability and regional grid support.
Leveraged Federal ITC and supported by state renewable energy incentives that improve project economics and accelerate payback.
Together, Phase One and Phase Two represent a step-change in how the cement company approaches energy management. With nearly 30 MW of combined renewable capacity, the company is demonstrating leadership in reducing industrial emissions while maintaining operational resilience. The Phase Two expansion ensures greater control over long-term electricity costs, reduces exposure to wholesale power volatility, and aligns with broader sustainablity and decarbonization goals.
As Spear Solar Solutions delivers Phase Two, PowerStack is positioned to showcase a broader value proposition: portfolio-scale execution with technology-agnostic flexibility. We work across regions, incentive regimes, and utility requirements to bring complex projects online quickly and reliably. For industrial clients, this means not just adding renewable power, but building a resilient, future-ready energy platform that turns infrastructure into a strategic asset.
